Stir-up Sunday: 5 gluten-free and dairy-free Christmas cake and pudding recipes

Stir up Sunday: 5 alternative Christmas cake recipes

Stir-up Sunday is a traditional day to create a Christmas pudding and always falls on the last Sunday in November.

Rather than make a Christmas pudding, I tend to use the day to make our Christmas cake, giving it plenty of time to seep up the alcohol that makes it deliciously moist.

We are a gluten-free (and mainly dairy-free) household owing to our daughter having coeliac disease and an intolerance to dairy.

Rather than cook lots of different meals, we all eat the same thing and I’ve devised recipes to make sure nobody misses out.

So, to inspire you to get ahead with your Christmas baking, I’ve pulled together five of my favourite alternative Christmas cake recipes.

The low FODMAP one

Delicious alternative to Christmas cake. This one is gluten-free, lactose-free, low sugar and low carb. It is also suitable for those on a low FODMAP diet as it contains no dried fruit.

I created this recipe a couple of years ago when I was trialling the low FODMAP diet for my Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

It contains no dried fruit, is gluten-free, lactose-free, low-carb and low sugar.

The ginger one
