Antonio Conte has predicted a ‘very brilliant’ future for Chelsea’s academy stars and revealed that five are closing in on breakthroughs into the main squad.
The Italian singled out Callum Hudson-Odoi, Ethan Ampadu, Dujon Sterling, Kyle Scott and Trevoh Chalobah as the Stamford Bridge stars of tomorrow, with all five set to travel with the team for the FA Cup clash with Hull.
Conte has complained about a lack of depth in his squad this season, but is convinced that Chelsea have serious quality coming through their young ranks, and he’s planning on utilising it during Friday night’s contest.
When asked if Ampadu and Hudson-Odoi would play against Hull, he replied: ‘Yes, I think that in the past in the Carabao Cup I gave them the chance to play and we are talking about two of the best players in our academy in Ampadu and, for me, it’s not difficult to predict a brilliant future for this player.
It’s the same for Odoi. There’s Sterling, Chalobah’s brother and Scott and they’re coming with us for the game tomorrow.
‘I think Chelsea’s future is very brilliant for these young players.’
Some of the young Blues may well find themselves in the starting XI as Conte looks to make changes ahead of a busy schedule.
The Blues face Barcelona, Manchester City and Manchester United in the three matches following their clash with Hull and Conte believes it’s the opportune moment to change things around.
‘We have in front of us two weeks that are very tough and for this reason it’s right to have a programme or a plan to approach these two weeks in the right way,’ he added.
‘At the same time, we want to try to go through to the next round of the FA Cup competition.
‘I think when you start a season, every competition is a priority and we tried to do the same in Carabao Cup to reach the semi-finals.
‘We want to fight for every competition. There is not one competition, there is three priorities this season.’
