Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has suggested Marcos Rojo is ready to start against Brighton on Saturday.

The Argentine made his first start of the season in a 1-0 defeat to Basel on Wednesday after recovering from knee surgery.

The defender’s been out of action for seven months and made just one appearance for the U23s before making his first team return.

Eric Bailly and Phil Jones remain sidelined for the game against the Seagulls, meaning Victor Lindelof and Chris Smalling are the only other recognised centre-backs other than Rojo.

However, Mourinho has hinted Rojo could start after being impressed with his performance in Switzerland.

‘He played very well, we have to see how he is today, the injury has gone there is no injury in the frame but fatigue… you are right,’ said Mourinho.

‘To be honest, Zlatan returned before him, Paul returned before him but he was in better condition than the others.

‘He didn’t return before because, during the last period of his recovery, we had all our central-backs ready to play, so we didn’t need to push him, we gave him more time to prepare,

‘So when he played on Wednesday, he was more than ready for that match.’
