Tehran, Europe Brief News – Diplomats said “Parties are trying to revive the Iran Nuclear talks which was scrambled on Wednesday to resolve last-minute Russian demand that threatens to scupper negotiation as the United States appeared unwilling to engage with Russian in the matter”
Western powers warned Russia for destroying an almost done deal to bring the United States and Iran together on the same page to resume the 2015 nuclear accord.
Iran’s top negotiator is back in Vienna on Wednesday after consulting with Government officials in Tehran.
It took almost eleven months of talks to bring back the deal which lifted the ban on Iran to resume working on its nuclear program. As per various diplomats, the deal reached its final stages as the nuclear deal was accepted broadly.
But just as the final issues were being resolved, Russia Jumped in the matter demanding guarantees from the United States that western sanctions targeting Moscow over its invasion of Ukraine would not affect its trade with Iran.
Russia Using Iran Nuclear Talks For Its Advantage:
Victoria Nuland, US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs accused Russia of seeking to extract some additional benefits from its participation in the efforts to restore the nuclear deal.
But Washington has made things clear that the United States is in no position to tell Russia let’s make a deal following its invasion of Ukraine.
The Western diplomats mentioned that they have no clear image of what the exact nature of Russia’s demand was but that appeared broader than its nuclear obligations to revive the deal.
A European diplomat said that Russia was demanding sweeping guarantees on trade between Moscow and Tehran.
European negotiators from France, Britain and Germany have raised their hands and declared that they have done more than enough to revive the Iran nuclear deal. They feel like they have done their part but now it’s totally up to Iran and the United States to make a final decision.
Ali Bagheri Kani, Iran’s Chief negotiator, returned to Tehran after the Russian foreign minister issued the list of their new demands. Iran’s Foreign Minister said that Tehran cannot afford its interest to be harmed by the Outside element.
Iran’s chief negotiator believes that Russia is sensing an opportunity here to fulfil its interest to strengthen its position in the ongoing crisis.
