EBN- Donald Trump, the 47th president of the United States, made a remarkable comeback Wednesday after refusing to concede defeat four years ago, inciting a violent uprising at the U.S. Capitol, being found guilty of felonies, and escaping two assassination attempts.
With the win in Wisconsin, Trump achieved the 270 electoral votes needed to win the presidency. On Wednesday afternoon, he won Michigan, sweeping the “blue wall” along with Pennsylvania, the swing states that once supported Trump in 2016 before switching to support Joe Biden in 2020.
His Democratic rival, Vice President Kamala Harris, called Trump on Wednesday afternoon to concede the race and congratulate him. A short time later, Biden also called Trump to congratulate him and to invite the president-elect to the White House, formally kicking off the transition ahead of Inauguration Day, the White House said. Biden also called Harris.
French President Emmanuel Macron and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu were among the foreign leaders who called Trump.
The win supports Trump’s no-holds-barred style of governance. As he promoted a gloomy vision of a nation overrun by violent migrants, he had attacked Harris in extremely personal, frequently misogynistic, and racist terms. The coarse rhetoric, paired with an image of hypermasculinity, resonated with angry voters – particularly men – in a deeply polarized nation.
“I want to thank the American people for the extraordinary honor of being elected your 47th president and your 45th president,” Trump told throngs of cheering supporters in Florida even before his victory was confirmed.
