Mikhail Podolyak, advisor to the Ukrainian President, stated that the next 48 hours in Russia will result in either a civil war or a transitional transfer of power, in light of the movement initiated by the Wagner military group against the Russian military leadership.
Podolyak added, in tweets on Twitter, that there might be a short period of calm before the next phase of the “collapse of the Putin regime” begins, as he put it.
The Ukrainian official viewed the rebellion carried out by Wagner group commander Yevgeny Prikhodko as the beginning of a civil war in Russia.
He believed that the Putin government is incapable of dealing with the current situation due to what he described as the collapse of the system.
Podolyak stated that the division among the elites in Russia is evident, and they will not succeed in reaching an agreement, adding that “everything has just begun in Russia, and someone will certainly lose.”
The presidential advisor talked about the stunning silence of the Russian elite regarding the ongoing events, pointing out that the “potential players” are now choosing which side to be on.
It is worth mentioning that Wagner group forces entered Russian territory from Ukraine, seized military facilities in the Rostov and Voronezh regions on Saturday, and their commander, Yevgeny Prikhodko, threatened to move towards Moscow, following accusations of the army bombing his fighters’ positions inside Ukraine.
