ItEBN- Nicole Kidman, the 57-year-old international actress who has starred in a fair number of films, in different and distinctive roles, revealed in a recent interview that behind the intense impersonation required for some characters, there was great suffering and a psychological battle she was fighting, in order to be able to separate between the role she was embodying and her real personality.
She also pointed out that her last film, “Baby Girl,” drained her psychologically and almost harmed her mentally, because of her identification with the character and the many mixed emotions and feelings she was feeling.
“I give everything I have to every role I play, and I didn’t know that it was coming at the expense of my mental health,” she said. “My latest film took a huge toll on me, because it’s really hard to go through all these emotions. Sometimes the director would stop filming and hug me to give me energy to keep working.”
She then mentioned that she went through a similar emotional trauma while filming the series “Big Little Lies” and said: “It was very disturbing to me psychologically, because I couldn’t distinguish between what was real and what wasn’t real.”
“I am still learning not to sacrifice myself for art,” she concluded. “My self-esteem is a new journey I am on.”
