Red Cross Ukraine Evacuation Attempt Failed In March
A previous Red Cross evacuation attempt failed in early March. An advisor to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy revealed that he is hopeful about the Mariupol evacuations. Russia and Ukraine have agreed to open humanitarian corridors during the war. This will facilitate the evacuation of civilians.
Seven such corridors have been planned for Saturday. Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk shared that private transport and buses will take the Mariupol residents out of the city of Berdyansk.
International red cross Ukraine failed to take a major Ukrainian city since it launched its invasion on Feb. 24. Russia says that they will be shifting their focus to the southeast.
Red cross Ukraine made a video address. Zelenskiy said Russian troops have toward Donbas and will be helping people in the heavily bombarded northeastern city of Kharkiv. Chuhuiv, which is a city in Kharkiv province has been under crisis. The two young women sat on neighboring hospital beds. Their limbs were bandaged and pinned in metal braces. They were the survivors of an attack on a bus that carried 20 civilians.
Speaking to Reuters, Alina Shegurets remembered her screams. She revealed that “Windows started to shake and she saw something that looked like holes. The bullets started to fly and she started to scream in fear. The other woman identified herself only as Yulia and shared that eight people died in the attack.
The war has killed thousands and has uprooted a quarter of Ukraine’s population. It has devastated cities such as Mariupol. Russia has denied targeting the civilians. President Vladimir Putin has called it a “special military operation” that aimed at demilitarising and “denazifying” Ukraine.
