EBN- The Wimbledon Tennis Championships began yesterday and will continue for several days. The opening ceremony was attended by a group of celebrities, sports figures and members of the royal families.
However, one of the most prominent attendees, whose name is associated with the tournament, was absent from the scene.
Kate Middleton Princess of Wales, had attended the previous session and even presented the awards to the winners in the tournament final, as a fan of the game and as patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.
This tournament is one of the oldest and most famous tournaments in tennis. It is held during the months of June and July of each year in the Wimbledon area in the British capital, London. Its events last for two weeks and it enjoys wide fame in all circles.
Yesterday, July 1, the eyes of the world’s press turned to the important sporting event, the start of the Wimbledon Championships, as a number of celebrities and members of royal families flocked to attend the annual tennis tournament.
Invitations come from the President of the All England Club, taking into account suggestions from members of the tournament’s organising committee, the Tennis Association and other relevant sources.
A strict dress code is also in place for attendees, who are asked to wear a suit or jacket and tie, while ladies are asked not to wear hats to avoid obstructing the view of those seated behind them.
After the day’s play is over, guests in the Royal Box are invited to the clubhouse for lunch, tea and drinks.
