EBN- US prosecutors have charged five people in connection with Matthew Perry’s death from a ketamine overdose last year, including the star’s assistant and two doctors.
Details of the charge
On,Thursday, August 15, U.S. Attorney Martin Estrada announced the indictment of five people in connection with the death of actor Matthew Berry, revealing that the two doctors supplied the actor with a large amount of ketamine, and even asked via text message how much he would pay for it.
“The defendants took advantage of Mr. Berry’s addiction issues to enrich themselves,” the prosecutor said. “They knew what they were doing was wrong.”
Estrada confirmed that two of the defendants, including one of the doctors, had been arrested. Two of the defendants, including Berry’s assistant, have already pleaded guilty to the charges, while the third has agreed to plead guilty.
Estrada also revealed that the defendants exchanged messages shortly after Berry’s death that implied ketamine was the cause of death, adding that they tried to cover up their involvement in supplying Berry with ketamine.
Reopen the investigation
Last May, the Los Angeles Police Department announced that the investigation into the death of American actor Matthew Perry had been reopened to determine how he obtained the drug ketamine. The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed in a statement that it is working with the US Postal Inspection Service and a number of departments to investigate the actor’s death.
The report stated that after an autopsy of the late artist’s body, it was found that there were high levels of ketamine in his blood samples after death, and the main fatal effects were due to excessive cardiovascular stimulation and psychological depression. The autopsy report also included the effects of drowning, coronary artery disease and buprenorphine as contributing factors to his death. The report was issued months after the file was closed as an accident that the artist was exposed to at the time, with no signs of suspicion or foul play.
Mattheu Perry was on ketamine for a while.
Matthew Perry was reportedly undergoing ketamine injections, which are known to help treat depression , anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder and chronic pain. According to an autopsy, the ketamine in his system at the time of death could not have been from the medication, as ketamine has a half-life of three to four hours or less.
“I always thought I was going to die within those hours,” Perry wrote in his memoir. “I thought that’s what happens when you die. But I was still going to take that shit because it was something different, and different is good.”
Matthew Perry’s death
It is noteworthy that the artist Matthew Perry passed away in October 2023 at the age of 54 due to the severe effects of ketamine, and he was found unresponsive in a hot tub in his home in Los Angeles.
