EBN- The Centre for Combating Disinformation (DMM) of the Presidency’s Directorate of Communications organised an event to evaluate the background of Israel’s policy of violence and the manipulation, disinformation, and perception management activities it has been implementing since October 7, 2023.
The event took place on October 30 and featured a discussion of the DMM’s fight for truth against the disinformation campaign waged by various propaganda accounts, particularly official Israeli accounts.
The struggle for truth against Israel’s disinformation strategies
Since October 7, 2024, the Presidency’s Centre for Countering Disinformation has fought for the truth against Israel’s perception management policy used to justify its massacres in Gaza. DMM reveals the true face of Israel’s disinformation campaign through verifications in six languages. The “Lies of Israel” platform, established in this context, was introduced at an event held on October 30 at the Directorate of Communications.
The Lies of Israel platform launched
Fahrettin Altun, Head of Communications of the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye, and Fadia Malhis, a doctor at Shifa Hospital during the Israeli attacks, delivered the opening speeches of the event, which launched the “Lies of Israel” platform, to inform the public about the fight for truth against the disinformation campaigns conducted by the Israeli authorities through various propaganda accounts, particularly their official social media accounts. During the event, expert guests discussed the background of Israel’s policy of violence and its disinformation campaign on social media.
Israel’s disinformation strategies evaluated
After the opening speeches, the first session, moderated by İbrahim Altay, Editor-in-Chief of Daily Sabah, discussed Israel’s disinformation and propaganda campaigns and their impact on digital platforms and media.
Akif Çağatay Kılıç, Chief Advisor to the President on Foreign Policy and Security, Dr. Ramy Abdu, Chairman of the Euro-Med Monitor, and journalists Rahma Zein and Özcan Tikit participated in the panel as speakers.
The panel discussed the role and impact of the media in disinformation and assessed ways to debunk the strategy based on lies. It addressed the question, “What are some methods for analysing and combating the disinformation tactics that are intended to obscure the assaults on civilians in Gaza?”
”Genocide in the shadow of lies”
In the second session of the panel, ‘Genocide in the shadow of lies’ was discussed. In the session moderated by CNN Türk anchor Büşra Arslantaş, Al Jazeera Seniority Presenter Tamer Almisshal, Middle East Technical University Head of Department of Cyber Security, Assoc. Prof. Cihangir Tezcan, journalist and writer Turan Kışlakçı and award-winning Palestinian journalist and content creator Ahmed Hijazi evaluated Israel’s genocidal policies against Palestinians throughout history and the disinformation strategies employed to justify these policies. The session discussed Israel’s strategy of lying to justify these policies in front of the international community and the effects of Israel’s disinformation campaigns on the Palestinian people.
