EBN- The chances of a world war breaking out have become very high, as the unipolarity that the United States achieved after the dissolution of the Soviet Union has reached a stage of decline because it has failed to manage the world, according to a number of observers and analysts.
The international institutions that emerged in the aftermath of World War II for the purpose of establishing security and resolving conflicts became sterile, and it was no longer possible to curb the rising competing powers except by force of arms.
Based on the decision of the International Criminal Court against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, which proved that international institutions have become mere tools used by Washington according to its interests, the question arises: Is it reasonable that the same country that praised the decision of the International Criminal Court when it issued its decision against Russian President Vladimir Putin , attacks and threatens the same institution and describes its decision as shameful when it issued a decision against Netanyahu?
As for the Security Council, which is unable to resolve any dispute, even if it reaches a decision by unanimous consent of its members, it is unable to enforce its implementation.
A number of countries called for serious action towards reforming the Security Council , including the use of the veto power and the inclusion of new countries in line with the new balance of power.
“A transition to multipolarity without strong global institutions could create chaos, and the risks of aggressive opportunism and miscalculation could grow,” said UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
“Today we see countries doing whatever they want without accountability, and impunity seems to be the name of the game, so we must all be determined to re-establish the priority of the rule of law,” he added.
Regarding equality and respect for international institutions, the Middle East is seething over America’s failure to control Iran’s nuclear program . Today, Iran rejected the decision of the International Atomic Energy Agency’s Board of Governors, which included measures it described as anti-Iranian, and confirmed its intention to operate a large number of new centrifuges. While Israel stressed that it would prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons at any cost.
As for the weapon of sanctions, which has failed to deter opponents such as Iran, Russia and North Korea, Washington still insists on brandishing it.
Today, the US administration imposed a package of sanctions on about 50 Russian banks with the aim of limiting their access to the global financial system, against the backdrop of the Ukraine war.
