The participants filled out electronic surveys before and after a 30-minute session of exercise. After 25, 50, and 75 minutes the people who performed the exercises participated in the survey more actively.
Improvement Was Seen Up To 75 Minutes After Exercise
The survey data tracked changes in major depressive disorder. The depressed mood state improved a lot after the session. It also decreased cognitive function.
The findings have indicated that the exercise improved the depressed mood state improved over the 30 minutes of exercise and lasted up to 75 minutes afterward.
After about 75 minutes, the exercise benefits helped in combating the depression symptoms. Those who cycled performed better on the test. The findings were less pronounced 25 and 50 minutes after the exercise.
The researchers are not sure how long the short-term effects will last. The finding that a depressed mood state can be improved through the final 75-minute post-exercise will last longer. The effect of a single exercise session can last more than an hour or more. It can also result in similar benefits for anhedonia.
