Athens, Europe Brief News – The latest homicide of a young football fan has forced Authorities in Greece to come up with better plans to strengthen the rules for governing supporters’ associations.
The gang of youth attacked poor boy alkis kambanos to death in the northern city of Thessaloniki last week.
The 19-year old alkis kambanos was a huge supporter of the local side Aris while his killers were supporting the rivals club PAOK.
In this brute of an incident, two other boys were also found injured as per reports.
For the time being, Police have arrested nine people for the deadly incident that took place on February 1.
Moreover, The Police issued arrest warrants for two more potential suspects
This incident has received powerful condemnation from various political leaders in Greece.
Political leaders have demanded tougher rules for the supporters.
Government spokesman Giannis Oikonomou said, “we will confront violent fans”.
He further added that it is our responsibility to society and most importantly to the younger generation to provide them with a better atmosphere to enjoy sports activities in the country.
New bill to be issued for better regulatory system
Oikonomu also said that the government is set to submit a new bill to parliament in the coming month.
The bill will strengthen rules including rasping punishments for violent football fans.
The new bill will also cater for the operating rules for all supporters clubs which are often used to stage attacks.
After the assassination of a 19-year-old boy, police came into action and make a raid on several football fan clubs in Thessaloniki and Athens.
And during the raid, Police seized various deadly weapons from the fans to prevent any attack.
Margaritis Schinas, the vice president of the European Commission from the city of Thessaloniki visited the killing scene.
During his brief visit, he shared his sorrow over the brutal killing of a young boy.
He also shared a message on Twitter saying “The violence, fanaticism and hatred of the few will not break us. Those of us who love and serve sports are many and stronger.”
The police charged one of the nine arrested suspects with Kambano’s murder.
The rest of the suspects are set to appear in court on Monday. The rivalry between the two clubs’ fanbase started during the interwar period.
