Gabriel Zuchtiegal, a Director-General for this mission Pompeii seems to appreciate its rapid deterioration. He said that it’s like an airplane going down to the ground and really risking a breakdown in pieces.
The Great Pompeii project received the amount of 105 million euros from the European Union on a term that it must be spent promptly and effectively. That sum of money helped Pompeii to restrain any further degradation.
Zuchtrigel said in an interview “The money was spent and spent well but with future conservation problems inevitable for building remains first excavated 250 years ago, new technology is crucial in this kind of battle against time”.
However, Pompeii is still facing a lot of danger, most importantly from climate extremes. The climate extremes include intensive rainfall and spells of baking heat.
Artificial Intelligence To Reconstruct Pompeii
The responsible team is using AI and robots to do the almost impossible task of rearranging the frescoes that have fallen into the tiniest of pieces.
The main goal is to reconstruct the frescoed ceiling of the house of the painters at work. Zuchtriegel said, “ At the start of the 19th century, the approach was to excavate all the pompeii”.
