Paris, Europe Brief News – The International Energy Agency suggests that the emission of planet-warming methane from oil, coal and gas production is incredibly higher than the government suggests.
The Agency further added that their analysis indicates that emissions are 70% higher than the official numbers presented by the governments worldwide.
The Agency predicts that if somehow the government comes up with a plan to plug all the leak, this amount of methane can be sufficient enough to supply all of Europe’s power sector.
They said “The findings underline the urgent need for enhanced monitoring efforts and stronger policy action to drive down emission of the potent greenhouse gas”.
Some Top Experts suggest that methane is responsible for almost a third of the temperature increase that appeared since the start of the industrial revolution. The Methane Gas tends to stay in the atmosphere for much longer than that of carbon Dioxide.
There is only way to restrict further warming by bringing down methane emission. Over the decades, it has been seen as the faster way to achieve more results.
The IEA said “Annual Global Methane tracker report shows emission from the energy sector grew by almost 5% last year. It said the volume of methane leaked amounted to about 180 billion cubic metres of natural gas”.
Methane Can Ease Europe Energy Crisis
They further added this is almost equal to all the gas used in Europe’s power sector and seems to be sufficient enough to help the market during the energy crisis.
The sattleties have indicated the sources of large emissions but the regions near the equator and the far north are still badly covered.
It also shows that the countries with higher emission incluised Russia, China, United States, Iran and India.
