Kyiv, Europe Brief News – The Russian military has initiated a major assault on Ukraine. Russia is firing dozens of missiles on cities and different military spots.
Russian forces have invaded Ukraine by sea, land and Air after weeks of escalating tensions. The Russian invasion was started after a pre-dawn address where Putin demanded the Ukraine’s military to lay down its arms.
According to the reports that are coming about casualties include some Ukrainian civilians and soldiers along with Russian troops.
Volodymyr Zelensky, A Ukrainian leader said “My country would not give up it’s freedom”. Moreover he Tweeted “ Russia has embarked on a path of evil, but Ukraine is defending itself”.
Ukraine has announced martial law in the country and broken all the diplomatic ties with Russia. It says weapons are available for anyone who wants them.
In the Kyiv, Capital city of Ukraine warning sirens blared out as traffic queued to leave the city and crowds found shelter in the metro station.
A number of neighbouring countries have started preparation to facilitate a large chunk of refugees. Moldova has announced that they have seen more than 4000 people reached.
The US, UK and western allies have announced that they will impose tougher sanctions on Russia too but they are not ready to send troops to fight against Russia.
What has Russia targeted?
Ukrainian Leader Zelensky had confirmed that Russia had almost massed more than 150,000 troops and thousands of combat vehicles all around the Ukrainian border before Thursday’s invasion.
The Russian military first started the invasion by hitting Ukrainian military spots and border guard units. Then Russian vehicles crossed the border near Kharkiv in the North ,Luhansk in the East and Russian annexed Crimea from the South.
Some residents of the kharkiv claimed that the windows in the apartment block was shaking due to continous bombing from Russian military.
Why did Russia Invade?
At the beginning of this week, Russian leader Putin recognized the septarists regions of Donetsk and Luhansk as an independent’s republic in eastern Ukraine.
The breakaway regions were captured by Russian backed rebels after Russia successfully invaded Crimea in 2014.
Since then reportedly more than 14,000 people have died in the east in a never ending conflict between rebels and Ukraine.
Russian leader Putin said that the only real objective to military opration was to defend the people in the breakaway areas.
