LVIV, Europe Brief News – Russian Forces have successfully captured Europe’s biggest nuclear power plant on Friday. Washington called it an incautious assault that could trick a disaster. However, the good news is that the fire in a training building was extinguished.
A Presidential advisor said Russian forces’ advance has been stopped in the southern city of Mykolayiv after local authorities claimed that Russians have already entered the city. If the Russian army manages to seize it, Mykolayiv will be the first big city to fall.
John Kirby, US Pentagon Spokesman said “The Russian assault on the Zaporizhzhia showed how reckless the invasion has been. It just raises the level of potential catastrophe to a level that nobody wants to see”.
As per the reports, the plant was safe and the fire was extinguished timely but officials are afraid about the uncertain circumstances as Russian forces take control of Ukrainian staff.
Raphael Grossi, International Atomic Energy Agency Chief, described the situation as a normal operation but there is nothing normal about this.
Nuclear Power Plant is safe:
Grossi claimed that the plant is sound and safe from what he assumes was a Russian projectile. Only one reactor was working at 60% of capacity. He was trying to reach out to Russian and Ukrainian officials to sort out our political responsibility.
Russia’s hold on a plant that produces more than a fifth of Ukraine’s electricity is a big advantage for Russian forces after eight days of the war.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in the latest video “ Europeans, please wake up. Tell your politicians that Russian forces are shooting at a nuclear power plant in Ukraine”.
As per various reports, thousands of people died and more than 1 million have fled the country since Putin launched a full-fledged invasion of Ukraine.
Russian forces are attacking from three sides and trying to capture each city of Ukraine to hold a better position. Moscow says its only aim is to overthrow the government and capture leaders it calls neo-Nazis and threat to its own security.
The Russian government banned foreign broadcasters including BBC, Voice of America and Deutsche Welle. The authorities even shut down a couple of independent Russian broadcasters.
The lower house of parliament announced new legislation to impose jail terms on people who spread fake reports about the military.
