London, Europe Brief News – UK imposed sanctions on Roman Abramovich who is an owner of one of the Successful Premier league Club Chelsea FC . The UK also hit Igor Sechin, the Chief Executive of Russian oil giant Rosneft. with several sanctions
The sanctions hit both the personalities with asset freezes and travel bans because of their furtive connections to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The sanctions forced Roman Abramovich to sell off the Chelsea FC premier league so that the British government could take control of the current European champions.
Boris Johnson, British Prime Minister said “ There can be no safe haven for those who have supported Putin’s vicious assault on Ukraine”.
He further added, “ We will be ruthless in pursuing those who enable the killing of civilians, destruction of hospitals and illegal occupation of sovereign allies”.
British Lawmakers were making so much noise and wanted the British government to take harsh actions against the Abramovich and other Russian oligarchs.
British Lawmakers Criticise Boris Johnson
Lawmakers blamed Boris Johnson for being so slow in his approach in imposing sanctions on Strong Russian personalities as compared to the European Union and the United States.
UK officials believe that Sechin has a very strong connection with Russian President Putin and has already been listed in EU and US sanctions. French Authorities took action against Sechin last week by capturing his yacht.
Since the invasion of Ukraine which Russia is claiming to be a Special military operation whose aim is to denazify and demilitarise the enemy Ukraine.
Britain has imposed sanctions on about 20 Russian linked figures until this point.The latest list of sanctions from Britain means that Abramovich is restricted from carrying out transactions with any British individual or business and he cannot even enter or stay in Britain.
Abramovich is a 55-year-old man who got dual citizenship in Israel and Portuguese. He became one of Russia’s strongest business figures by earning a massive fortune after the 1991 breakup of the soviet union.
He became an owner of the Chelsea club back in 2003. He bought the club for 140 million pounds and his investment contributed greatly to the team’s success as Chelsea won five premier league titles, five FA Cups and a two-time champion league winner.
Abramovich said last week that he is planning to sell the Chelsea club to donate the money to help victims of the war in Ukraine.
