Ingolstadt, Europe Brief News – Virtual Reality is ready to launch in series production cars this summer starting with Audi, Sedans and SUVs.
Holoride made a huge announcement on Saturday at the SXSW tech, music and film conference in Austin that it is all set to launch a headset-based virtual reality entertainment system.
The company is aiming to launch it in June in a number of Audi models with the latest MIB 3 software. The idea of Holoride’s in-car Virtual Reality amazed Audi a few years back. It also indicates the growing interest among automakers to find new ways to attract more customers.
The Holoride system intertwines backseat passengers’ physical world with augmented reality for a motion synchronised journey as the car moves along. The good thing about the system is it is brand agnostic which means that other automakers can chip in too.
Holoride Partnered with Terranet For Virtual Reality:
Holoride partnered with Terranet which is a renowned Swedish ADAS software development company. Its software will enable the VR systems sensors and software to stack, capture and interpret the environment quickly and accurately.
Terranet’s Voxel Flow system calculates Virtual Reality movement based on data points received from the car. The software is designed to develop virtual reality content for cars and also allows developers to create content and eventually dive in.
For the time being the only extra cost to use the VR system is that the customer will have to buy a headset separately but as it moves along, there are countless opportunities for carmakers and developers to make money from Car owners.
According to an Allied Market Research report the global automotive AR and VR market is set to reach $674 million by 2025.
Adding Virtual Reality entertainment into series production cars is also just a first step towards developing a type of content passengers may consume once driverless cars arrive.
The future market opportunity for in-car content and entertainment is wide because once driverless cars start to launch, everyone becomes a passenger and they will need such gadgets to make their rides ever more entertaining.
Holoride and Audi also announced that the passengers will be able to buy or collect NFTs supported by Elrod’s blockchain while visiting the virtual world.
Location games could connect the virtual world to locations or even in the physical world just like Pokemon Go.
