TOT may consist of speaking with other people, hanging around, and even going to the restroom every once in a while. The employee is subject to disciplinary action if they accumulate more than 30 minutes of TOT in a single day. Employees who commit the same infractions repeatedly risk losing their jobs. In addition, managers have been instructed to conduct interviews with employees with high TOT statistics and explain each TOT case.

These questionable actions have previously been brought to light, but this is the first time official information has been made available to the general public. Amazon used these strategies at their warehouse on Staten Island, located in New York, and was the first Amazon warehouse to be unified back in April. This unrestrained emphasis on output at whatever cost, combined with accidents that occurred at Amazon warehouses, led to a breach among the ranks, and a warehouse worker brought the problem straight to the shareholders of Amazon.
