Brussels, Europe Brief News –If you bought a Brompton folding electric bicycle between May 2019 and March 2022, you need to stop using it immediately and take it back to the store where you bought it. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), an organization based in the United States, ten owners of Brompton e-bikes have reported that objects have been lodged between the mudguard and the front tire, resulting in the wheel locking up and leading to an accident. Let’s review why the bikes got recalled.
Reports About The Brompton E-bikes
The owners reportedly informed them of this. As a direct result of this, nine persons have sustained injuries, two of whom have been taken to the hospital, and two have been killed. “Head and facial trauma, broken bones, shoulder dislocation, bruising, and chipped teeth” are common ailments.
E-Bike Models that Got Re-Called
It is highly recommended that owners of the recalled models, which include the Brompton Electric M2L, H2L, M6L, and H6L, contact an authorized Brompton dealer to file a claim for a free repair. The front mudguard stay and flap will need to be changed to fix the issue. This will provide a larger gap between the mudguard and the tire, allowing easier driving. There are about 2,230 electric bicycles that fall under the recall, and their costs range from $3,500 to $3,800 each.

The Source of the Problem
Mudguards, sometimes known as fenders, have been the source of problems for several manufacturers of electric bicycles. A similar problem occurred with VanMoof in the year 2020, and it affected around 1,600 of the company’s S3 and X3 electric bicycles. The affected bikes had fender nuts that were too loose. However, rather than road debris being lodged between the mudguard and the tire, a handful of VanMoof’s mudguards became dislodged between the tire and the frame, which caused the wheel to get stuck.
Since April 2021, this is the second time the CPSC has called for the recall of Brompton e-bikes. About 600 bicycles were included in the first recall and had to be sent back to their respective retailers to install a software patch. This patch was intended to correct a fault that caused the bicycles to accelerate unexpectedly.
