London, Europe Brief News –Emergency use of the Moderna and Covid-19 vaccinations for children as young as six months has been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). This is the first time this vaccine has been approved for use in this age range.
COVID-19 Vaccines for UnderAge Kids
According to the Xinhua news agency, a new emergency use authorization (EUA) has been issued by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to use the Moderna vaccine in children six months to 17 years old.
In the past, the vaccination was only approved for adults over 18 years old.
The FDA revised the EUA for the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine to cover the use of the jab in children ages six months to 4 years old.
People ages five and older were previously permitted to get the vaccination. EUAs are supported by the FDA’s thorough examination and analysis of the vaccines’ safety, efficacy, and manufacturing data.

Moderna and Pfizer Suitable for Pediatric Patients
For the pediatric populations permitted to use Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine, the government decided that the known and prospective benefits outweighed the known and possible hazards.
Two doses of the Moderna vaccine are given in the main series, separated by one month.
At least eight weeks following the second dosage, a third dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is provided as part of the main series of three doses taken three weeks apart.
Earlier this week, the FDA’s advisory board recommended the two vaccinations to the agency.
FDA’s Approval
Marks said Friday’s meeting was part of a transparent approach to assist the public in better understanding safety and efficacy evidence that supported the approval of these two vaccines for use in pediatric patients.
The Food and Drug Administration’s Commissioner Robert Califf said that “those tasked with the care of children may have faith in the safety and efficacy of these Covid-19 vaccinations and can be confident that the agency was thoroughly evaluated of the evidence.”
On Saturday, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will hold an advisers meeting to vote on recommendations for pharmacies and doctor’s offices to administer the injections.
