London, Europe Brief News – A growing list of countries have begun imposing COVID restrictions on Chinese arrivals.
Several countries, including the US and France, are imposing restrictions on Chinese travellers for fear of another COVID-19 outbreak.
It comes just after the country rolled back its stringent ‘zero-COVID’ policy.
From the US to Japan, nations are worried that new variants could emerge from China’s continuing outbreak, and that Beijing may not inform the rest of the world quickly enough.
There have been no reports of new variants yet, but there is widespread concern over the lack of information and data from China.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has stressed the need to share real-time information on Covid in China as infections surge.
Last week, Chinese authorities decided to ban daily figures for infections and deaths as hospitals appear to be filling up amid concerns about a fresh Covid-19 wave hitting the country.
WHO officials say they want to see more data on hospitalisations, intensive care unit admissions and deaths.
It also wants figures on vaccinations.
Beijing last week admitted the scale of the outbreak has become “impossible” to track following the end of mandatory mass testing.
Since 2020, China has imposed strict health restrictions as part of its zero Covid policy.
But, the government ended most of those measures two weeks ago after landmark protests against the strict controls.
