EBN – The British GB News has temporarily suspended a presenter in response to comments made live about a female journalist.
During an episode of “Dan Wootton Tonight” on Tuesday, Laurence Fox, a GB News presenter, made comments about Ava Evans.
The journalist serves as the political correspondent for the online news platform Joe.
Fox’s remarks followed statements made by Evans regarding the potential need for a minister dedicated to men’s issues.
Fox, in his response, alleged that Evans had been “indoctrinated with oppression.” He further commented, “Find me a self-respecting man willing to be associated with that woman.”
Social Media and Public Pressure
In reaction to Fox’s comments, Evans took to social media, publishing a post on X (formerly known as Twitter).
“Laurence Fox just did a whole speech on GB News on why men apparently won’t shag me?” she said. Evans later expressed that Fox’s remarks had left her feeling “physically nauseous.”
Britain’s broadcasting regulatory body, Ofcom, reported that it had received complaints about the incident and had initiated an investigation.
GB News swiftly condemned Fox’s comments as “unacceptable” and announced his suspension. The network also extended an apology to Ava Evans for the incident.
In response to the controversy, Dan Wootton, the host of the programme, posted an extensive statement on X.
He expressed that he was “completely unamused by the remarks” and that he was shocked.
Wootton also issued an apology to Ava Evans, emphasising that such behaviour was not in line with the channel’s views.
However, Laurence Fox has firmly stood by his comments, asserting that he stands by “every word” he said. Moreover, the presenter accused GB News of “succumbing to public pressure.”
GB News Faces Scrutiny
GB News has been a subject of controversy in the United Kingdom since its inception.
The network has undergone multiple investigations by Ofcom to assess whether its programming adheres to broadcasting regulations.
A recent Ofcom investigation found GB News in violation of impartiality rules following an interview with a member of the Conservative Party.
The investigative report stated that the programme exhibited a marked bias in favour of various Conservative viewpoints.
