EBN- At least two people were shot dead, while another was injured in a shooting attack in the southern town of Sion in Switzerland
A manhunt is under way, looking for the shooter, local police said.
The incident took place at two separate locations in the town shortly before 08:00 (07:00 GMT) on Monday, the police added.
“Two people were killed and another was injured,” police said
“According to initial findings, the perpetrator knew his victims,” police said, adding that the motives behind the incident remained unknown.
The 36-year-old suspect was driving his grey, Peugeot 206 Cabriolet.
Police have set up road blocks around Valois in an attempt to stop the alleged gunman from leaving the country.
The police urged the public not to approach or confront the gunman who have described him as a “dangerous” individual.
Switzerland, one of the richest countries in the world on a per-capita basis, has a high rate of gun ownership. Small Arms Survey, a Swiss-based organisation that monitors global trends in armed violence, estimates the number of firearms in civilian possession at 2.3 million.
Notably, Switzerland has remained free from mass shootings since 2001. A man stormed the local parliament in Zug and killed 14 before taking his own life. However, since then, the European nation has seen a murder rate concerning guns that is almost zero.
