The torch will set off across southern France this week, after arriving in the coastal city of Marseille last month from Greece. The locations of the Olympic torch relay are carefully chosen, in order to highlight the beauty and culture of the host country.
Halle Berry carries the torch for the Olympics
It started with Halle Berry, as the Oscar-winning actress led the way down the Croisette in Cannes, wearing sunglasses and all-white sportswear, carrying the Olympic torch , then heading to the Palais des Festivals, where Thierry Frémaux, director of the Cannes International Film Festival, was waiting for her. He carried another torch up the stairs of the Palace of Festivals and Conferences in the French city of Cannes, then roamed the streets of the French city with it.
The Olympic flame turns to the Principality of Monaco
In an unexpected development, the Olympic flame turned to Monaco during its journey through the Maritime Alps. Six runners from Monaco carried the torch, and Formula 1 champion Charles Leclerc was the first runner of the relay to carry the torch.
Then, Princess Charlene of Monaco, her husband Prince Albert II, and their twins Princess Gabriella and Prince Jacques participated in the relay in Monaco, carrying the Olympic torch as a family.
