EBN- Miss Denmark, Victoria Kjer Thelvig, won the title of Miss Universe 2024 in Mexico City, the capital of Mexico.
This marks Denmark’s first ever win in this global competition, which this year celebrates its 73rd anniversary.
The new Miss Universe is 21 years old. She is a law student, beauty entrepreneur, and mental health advocate.
About 130 girls from around the world participated in the pageant, and the first runner-up was Miss Nigeria, Chidima Adechina, the second runner-up was Miss Mexico, Suchata Chuangsri was the third runner-up, and Miss Venezuela, Elena Marquez Pedroza, was the fourth runner-up.
Interestingly, the latter is a 28-year-old mother who was able to participate in the competition after the Miss Universe organizing committee lifted the ban on married, pregnant, and mother-to-be candidates.
This year’s pageant saw the first contestant in her 40s competing for the title of Miss Universe, Miss Malta Beatrice Njoya, the first veiled contestant, Miss Somalia Khadija Omar, and the first contestant suffering from vitiligo, a skin condition that takes the form of white patches covering the skin, Miss Egypt Lugina Salah, 34, a model living in Dubai.
