EBN- Atalanta player Simone Muratore has announced his retirement from football due to a serious illness.
The Italian newspaper “La Gazzetta dello Sport” reported that Muratore, 26, was diagnosed with the disease 3 years ago, and despite his attempts to return to the green rectangle, he eventually decided to retire and bid farewell to the stadiums.
The player’s last match was on October 10, 2021, with Portuguese club Tondela, to which he was loaned from Atalanta.
The player posted a very touching statement on his social media accounts, announcing the end of his journey with the world of football, saying: “Three years have passed since that day, and the news was surprising, and changed my life and the lives of those around me after I learned that I had the disease. Moments of thinking, questions, and anger.
I didn’t shed a single tear. I always tried to appear strong in the eyes of others. From the day I heard the news until the night of the operation, in the room with my mother, the strongest woman I knew, I burst into tears like a child, afraid that I would never wake up again or that I would wake up and be someone else. It was days, weeks, months, years of suffering,” he added.
“I had to learn again how to speak properly, walk, run, write, read, count, it was as if I had returned to childhood and started over. There were days when I found it difficult to get out of bed even though I felt better. Today, I put a point in my career as a player. I tried until the end to come back, I shed tears and sweat, but I was no longer the same and realized that at least I was lucky to have recovered and that I am fine. I had the opportunity to play with exceptional and outstanding players and this is something I will never forget. Thanks Juventus, Atalanta and Tondela for being by my side.”
First appearance
Muratore made his first appearance for Juventus in December 2019 when coach Maurizio Sarri included him in the Old Lady’s match against Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League group stage, which ended with the Italian team winning (2-0). At the time, the player was 19 years old.
His first appearance in the Italian League was in June 2020, when he participated in the Juventus and Lecce match in the 28th round of the 2020-2021 season.
During his career with Juventus, Muratore won the Italian League twice and the Italian Cup once.
