EBN- A French woman, known only as Anne, fell victim to an elaborate scam after a con artist made her believe he was Hollywood star Brad Pitt.
French woman scammed over relationship with Brad Pitt
In a report by BFM TV, the woman said she was scammed out of more than $820,000 in an elaborate scheme that also caused her marriage to collapse.
The 53-year-old woman said her ordeal began in February 2023, when she received a message on Facebook from someone impersonating Pete’s mother.
She claimed that the scammer used AI-generated videos and photos to convince her that he was the real actor, and they began an online romance, where he maintained contact with her only through text messages and avoided any phone calls with her.
Over time, the con man, posing as Pete, proposes to Anne, prompting her to file for divorce from her millionaire husband.
Shortly after, the scammer claimed he had bought her expensive gifts but needed more than $9,000 to cover customs fees, so she sent him the requested amount.
After Anne received nearly $800,000 from her divorce settlement, the scammer claimed he needed money for kidney cancer treatment, sending AI-generated photos and videos of the global star lying in a hospital bed and hooked up to devices.
He also claimed that he cannot access his own money due to his ongoing divorce from Angelina Jolie.
The scam was only exposed when Anne saw media reports that the real Brad Pitt was in a relationship with his new girlfriend, Ines de Ramon, and upon seeing pictures of them together, she realized she had been scammed.
Depression treatment
The victim is currently receiving treatment for severe depression at a clinic, while authorities work to track down the scammer.
Anne is not the only one who has been scammed out of large sums of money in scams by people claiming to be Brad Pitt. Spanish police have arrested five individuals, seized various items, and recovered some of the money stolen from the women.
