EBN- Chris Rock has returned to the social scene at the Oscars, after years of absence from one of Hollywood’s biggest entertainment events, since the Will Smith slap incident that took place at the 94th Academy Awards in 2022.
Chris Rock Returns to the Oscars
The 60-year-old comedian attended the Vanity Fair Oscars party hosted by the magazine’s editor-in-chief Radhika Jones at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts last night.
Rock appeared next to his youngest daughter , Zahra Rock , wearing a black evening suit, a white shirt and elegant black shoes, and took pictures with his daughter on the red carpet.
Rock has two daughters: Zahra , 20, and Lola Simone Rock, 22, from his ex-wife Malak Compton Rock.
During the event, Rock was seen chatting to David Spade, Mick Jagger and Timothée Chalamet, before posing for photos with Lauren Sanchez and Jeff Bezos, as well as Sacha Baron Cohen and Tracee Ellis Ross.
Will Smith , 56, was notably absent from the star-studded ceremony, after being banned from attending the Oscars for 10 years by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
Will Smith slapping Rock
In 2022, Smith and Rock got into a heated argument at the Dolby Theatre, where Rock was hosting the 94th Academy Awards, and he joked about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith , 53, who suffers from alopecia. She didn’t like the joke. Smith , who was nominated for Best Actor at the ceremony, got on stage and slapped Rock.
Months after the incident, Rock revealed that he had turned down an offer to host the 2023 Oscars, comparing returning to the Oscars to being like returning to the scene of a crime.
Rock continued to stay away from Oscar events in the years following the slap, except for attending a ceremony in Miami for the 95th Academy Awards.
