EBN- Outgoing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced Ukraine’s agreement to a complete ceasefire along the contact line.
There was a proposal from the American side itself to take the first step… to try to establish a complete ceasefire for 30 days, not just missile strikes, drones, and bombs, and not just in the Black Sea, but along the entire front,” Zelensky said in a video address on Tuesday.
He added, “Ukraine agrees to this proposal, we consider it positive, and we are ready to take this step.
This came following the conclusion of negotiations between the US and Ukrainian delegations in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, where both sides announced Ukraine’s readiness to implement a 30-day ceasefire if Russia agreed to such a step, and its willingness to sign a natural resources agreement with the United States.
At the same time, the United States announced the lifting of restrictions on intelligence sharing with Ukraine and the end of the suspension of military aid.
It is worth noting that there were earlier proposals for a partial ceasefire, which would have included air strikes and operations in the Black Sea without halting fighting on the entire front.
Why is Zelensky rushing into a 30-day truce?
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed that Kyiv expressed its willingness to accept a US proposal for an immediate ceasefire for 30 days.
This follows negotiations between the American and Ukrainian delegations in the Saudi city of Jeddah.
While outgoing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy indicated that the ceasefire proposal covers the front lines and not just air and naval operations, US President Donald Trump expressed his hope that Russian President Vladimir Putin would accept Washington’s proposal, stressing the need to end the war in Ukraine.
What are the chances of success of the US proposal for a temporary ceasefire in Ukraine? What are Russia’s priorities in any future truce.
