Lionel Messi and PSG reached concluded a two-year deal, said French newspaper L’Equipe.
The athlete will arrive at the capital of France in the coming hours to seal the deal.
Rumours circulated yesterday that Joan Laporte has offered Messi a new deal as the last chance. Messi, however, has finalized his move to join his friend Neymar at PSG.
The 34-year-old saw two options once he officially left the Spanish club the previous week. He, in turn, preferred PSG on a £25m deal after-tax, in addition to bonuses.
The agreement adheres to a two-year contract with an extending option until June 2024. While the contract terms are not apparent to the public yet, the Copa America winner will seal the deal soon.
Spanish media outlets doubted the news of a new offer to Messi, as the latter made it clear in his farewell conference.
The media and the fans directed fierce criticism against Joan Laporte, the new Braca president, for letting Messi leave during his spell. Laporte, who later declared that “Barcelona is above any player,” expressed his inability to keep Messi a Barca player due to La Liga regulations.
The six-time Ballon d’Or winner has given the green light to the terms. He is yet to travel to Paris to seal the deal.
Spanish media outrage
According to documents Reuters secured, a Barca member filed complaints to the European Commission to block the move of Messi to Paris St Germain.
The complaints include allegations concerning Financial Fair Play regulations (FFP). The French club has failed to maintain such rules and will violate them when signing Messi.
Among the FFP regulations, top European clubs cannot pay excessively high salaries to their players that exceed their total revenues.
The Barca member, who filed the complaint, declared that Messi sealing a deal with PSG would infringe this regulation.
