The Greek coast guard said they stopped a yacht carrying 124 migrants near Milos’ Cycladic island.
Approximately three days after intercepting several others in a sailboat near the coast of a southern Greek island.
The coast guard authorities said a Greek concerned citizen had reported about the yacht.
The authorities located the yacht early on Tuesday near the southern beach of Milos.
The authorities transferred the 124 people to shore, while they confiscated the yacht.
The yacht appeared to have a small amount of water on board, the coast guard said.
Authorities did not immediately publish information about the nationalities of the migrants.
Separately, they announced on Tuesday that the coast guard had intercepted 35 migrants on Sunday.
They also arrested two people, aged 36 and 71, under suspicion of smuggling people.
This happened after they received a distress signal about a boat in Kythira, a southern island in Greece.
The coast guard evacuated all passengers on board, but the sailboat hit the rocky part of the island’s western coast.
They also did not announce the nationalities of the passengers, nor the suspected smugglers.
Thousands of people try to cross to the EU through Greece as they head from Turkey towards the Greek islands.
However, most migrants end up on the islands near the Turkish borders.
Both Milos and Kythira are at a great distance from the common migration route.
Milos is nearly 150 miles away from the nearest Turkish coast, and Kythira is ~250 miles from Turkey.
Greece has made it crystal clear that it wants asylum-seekers away from its territories.
Additionally, it has been improving its surveillance systems on land and putting sea bounds on the border with Turkey.
