The biggest workers’ unions in Italy rallied on Saturday in Rome and demanded the government dissolve the Neo-Fascists.
Some Neo-fascist groups were involved in the violent protests against the Covid19 health pass last week.
Back then, the police arrested a dozen of people, including leaders of right-wing extremist group Forza Nuova.
This happened after thousands protested in the street to object to the mandatory “Green Pass” for all workers. Read more.
Some people broke through police barriers to reach the PM’s office, while others crashed their way into the CGIL. The CGIL is the largest trading union in Italy.
Several people attending the march raised the CGIL flags as they rallied the streets.
They marched on Saturday afternoon from the city’s main station to the central square of San Giovanni.
The major unions in Italy, CGIL, CISL and UIL all demanded the government to dissolve Neo-fascist and Neo-nazi groups.
The rally held the “No to fascism and violence. Yes to work, safety and rights”.
“We ask for concrete acts, not just chatter. It is time for the state to demonstrate its democratic strength in enforcing the laws and the constitution.” Said Maurizio Landini, the CGIL’s Secretary-General.
“A country that loses its memory cannot have a future,” he added.
According to organizers, between 50,000 and 60,000 people took part in Italy’s rally.
Pierpaolo Bombadieri, the head of CGIL, said the participation ratio reached 100,000 people.
“Stay away from our head offices, stay away from the squares,” Bombardiere said, referring to the protests the week before.
The riots that took place last week drew an abundance of condemnation.
Matteo Salvini and Giorgia Meloni, the leaders of the rightist League and Brothers of Italy parties, were among the condemners.
Two leaders of Forza Nuova are still in custody following a judge’s decision.
