The body of a Palestinian refugee has been found in the woods near the border with Belarus. The woman was the latest victim in a political standoff at the European Union’s eastern border.
The 44-year-old woman was arrested in the train station while in her way to Minsk along with other refugees.
However, she died in mysterious circumstances.
No further details were revealed till time of writing about her death.
Earlier Tuesday, the Syrian refugee Ahmad al-Hasan, 19, was found in the Bug River in eastern Poland. He drowned while trying to cross over from Belarus.
According to his companion who survived, al-Hasan was pushed to enter the water by a Belarusian guard. He could not swim.
He wanted to continue his education, which he began in a Syrian refugee camp in Jordan.
The government in Minsk has for months been encouraging irregular migration across the border into the EU nations of Poland, Lithuania and Latvia.
All three countries are reinforcing their borders, seeking to block the newly opened migration route. The situation is growing more dangerous as winter approaches.
More than 2,000 asylum seekers and migrants remain on Poland-Belarus borders for several weeks after Polish authorities refused to let them in.
The situation is particularly acute for mothers and children stuck in the extreme cold weather and freezing temperatures without any humanitarian or medical aid.
Their numbers have unprecedentedly risen over the past few weeks amid tension between Belarus and Poland.
