EBN- One in three people in the Central African Republic is facing acute hunger, which is Phase 3 or worse, according to a new Integrated Food Security Phase Classification analysis, UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said.
The UN spokesman added that the World Food Programme confirmed that the situation is set to worsen between April and August next year, and if they do not receive sufficient humanitarian assistance, 2.3 million people, or 35 percent of the population, are expected to face severe food insecurity, including more than 430,000 men, women and children at risk of emergency acute hunger.
The UN spokesman pointed out that, in coordination with the government, the World Food Programme provides school meals to 170,000 children across the country.
The agency also works to address the root causes of hunger and vulnerability by strengthening systems and enhancing the ability to prevent future shocks and build resilience to them.
