London, Europe Brief News – Amber Heard’s sister posted a message of support to her sister after the multi-million dollar defamation trial against Johnny Depp.
Whitney Henriquez said she would “always be proud” of her sister “for standing up for yourself” after the jury found mostly in Depp’s favour in a US court last week.
Depp had sued Heard for $50m (£38.2m) over an article published in The Washington Post in December 2018, in which she referred to herself as “a public figure representing domestic abuse”.
Heard’s column did not mention Depp by name, but he argued it was an example of “defamation by implication” because parts of the column referred to allegations of abuse she made against him following their break-up in 2016.
Heard, 36, said she was “heartbroken” and felt “disappointment beyond words” after Depp was awarded $15m (£11.9m) by the court.
Both Depp and Heard have testified that the other had been physically violent with them during the course of their relationship.
The defamation case brought by actor Johnny Depp against his ex-wife has come to an end, but the court of social media seems to be still ongoing.
Posters on Twitter and TikTok have overwhelmingly backed Depp, with hashtags like “JusticeForJohnnyDepp” racking up nearly 3 billion views on TikTok. Similar hashtags have been tweeted thousands of times. A search for “JusticeForAmberHeard” on Twitter displayed tweets calling for justice for Depp.
