EBN- Violent protests have erupted in Ireland‘s capital, Dublin, after four people including three young children were injured in a suspected knife attack.
A five-year-old girl and a woman in her 30s were seriously injured in the attack outside a school in Dublin.
Two other children, a five-year-old boy and a six-year-old girl, also suffered less serious injuries.
A man in his 50s was detained in relation to the incident, and was also hospitalised with serious injuries.
Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar said the full force of the law will be brought against those involved in violent disorder.
Thirty-four arrests were made during rioting following an earlier knife attack in the city centre which left four people injured.
Varadkar says the knife attack and the rioting brought “shame on Ireland”.
Garda Commissioner Harris says there was “huge destruction from a riotous mob”, which police have blamed on a “lunatic, hooligan faction driven by far-right ideology.”
One police officer was seriously injured during the protests. Shops were looted and police vehicles, a bus and a tram destroyed.
Police earlier said a five-year-old girl was in emergency care following the knife attack. A woman in her 30s and two other children aged five and six were also injured.
Officers said they weren’t looking for anyone other than a man involved in the incident. Investigators say they’re “keeping an open mind” about any motive
