London, Europe Brief News – Criticism of AstraZeneca jab ‘probably killed hundreds of thousands’, scientist claimed.
The Oxford scientist Professor Sir John Bell, who worked on the AstraZeneca vaccine, has said that critics of the jab “probably killed hundreds of thousands of people”. He further accused them of damaging its reputation.
“They have damaged the reputation of the vaccine in a way that echoes around the rest of the world. I think bad behaviour from scientists and from politicians has probably killed hundreds of thousands of people. They cannot be proud of.”
The Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine was approved in the UK in December 2020. Nearly half of UK adults have received two doses of it.
However, it has not played a significant part of the booster campaign. Only 48,000 booster or third doses have been AstraZeneca.
Fears over the links to blood clots also led other countries, including Germany, France, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, the Republic of Ireland, Denmark, Norway, Bulgaria, Iceland and Thailand, to pause their use of the vaccine.
Britain has recently approved Novavax’s two-dose COVID-19 vaccine for use in adults. This has brought a fifth coronavirus shot to the country.
The authorities approved the vaccine for use in Britons aged 18 years and older. It met the required effectiveness standards.
Thus, the move came as the country is confronting the rapid spread of the Omicron variant led to spike in cases.
