Europe ( Europe Brief News): Austria calls for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and reaffirms that the territory must remain Palestinian ahead of key diplomatic talks with Netanyahu.
According to Anadolu, Austria denounced Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s recent declaration of intentions to fully occupy the Gaza Strip on Tuesday.
“International law is clear. Gaza must remain Palestinian territory. Forced displacement is unacceptable,”
Austria’s Chancellery said in a statement.
The announcement was made in advance of Chancellor Christian Stocker and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s scheduled phone conversation.
“International law is clear. Gaza must remain Palestinian territory. Forced displacement is unacceptable,”
it stressed.
Along with stating that the Palestinian organization Hamas should not be included in the future governance of Gaza, the statement emphasized the significance of working with the Palestinian Authority and the international community to establish a workable solution that complies with international law.
The statement said that the people of Gaza must have complete access to international humanitarian aid and that
“it is essential to ultimately return to a ceasefire, as there have been far too many civilian casualties on both sides.”
Israel has been heavily condemned for its strategy of blocking help for more than two months and just now permitting a small amount to enter.
What are the main reasons behind Austria’s stance on Gaza?
Austria views any forced displacement as a breach of international law and stresses that Gaza must remain Palestinian territory. This illustrates Austria’s dedication to respecting established legal frameworks pertaining to territorial integrity and peoples’ rights.
Austria emphasizes that the inhabitants of Gaza must have complete access to international humanitarian aid and draws attention to the urgent necessity for a ceasefire given the high number of civilian casualties on both sides.
The nation has actively contributed a significant amount of humanitarian aid to Gaza, reaffirming its commitment to reducing the suffering of civilians during the conflict.
Austria expressly states that Hamas should not be involved in the governance of Gaza and urges a practical political solution involving the Palestinian Authority and the international community.
