Jordi Alba has reached an agreement with Barcelona on the salary cut, said the club on Tuesday.
The player has followed the footsteps of his teammate Gerard Pique. The latter agreed to wage cut two weeks ago, helping the club registering the newcomers with La Liga.
Jordi Alba assured later in public that he is willing to cooperate with the club. However, it was a bit late, as Alba said the club needed one wage cut to register the newcomers.
Barcelona wanted another wage cut unlike Alba suggested because they want to register Sergio Aguero. They are not in a hurry, as the player is recovering from an injury he picked up in preseason training. The player has not started his Barcelona debut yet.
Regarding the wage cut, the Spanish left-back has said yes to a 25%-cut of his salary. Also, he has agreed to a massive portion of his wages. This comes as an attempt to help the club stand out amid the financial crisis.
Lately, Alba’s name has had links with Barca midfielder, Sergio Busquets. But it seems that the latter has not agreed yet. Likewise, Sergi Roberto will have talks with the club, as Barcelona try to convince the high earners to agree on wage cuts.
Bench players
Miralem Pjanic and Samuel Umtiti have been sitting on the bench for a long time. For Umtiti, Barcelona have been trying to sell him or let him go on a loan. But the player keeps rejecting all offers.
Umtiti lost his fitness after the World Cup, and since then, he lost his position in Barcelona XI.
Pjanic, on the other hand, has been joining the bench as well. Not because of fitness, but because Koeman’s playstyle does not allow the player to fit.
Concerning Umtiti, the club has warned the player that they could terminate his contract if he does not cooperate. While there are many offers for the player, he keeps turning them down.
Pjanic, in turn, has not received offers officially, but there are a number of clubs that have a keen interest in the player.
