EU member states declare intention to impose further sanctions on Belarus over the migrant crisis that the bloc blames on Minsk.
Belarusian national carrier Belavia and Syria’s Cham Wings Airlines are among entities the European Union is planning to sanction.
Nitrogen fertilizer producer Grodno Azot and oil producer Belarusneft, as well as Belarusian border officials, are also on the list.
Biden’s administration will also impose a new sanctions package against Belarus in coordination with European nations.
Poland has accused Belarus of continuing to bringing more migrants to its border despite clearing camps close to the frontier.
The European Union also accused Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko of deliberately attempting to flood the bloc with migrants in retaliation for sanctions against the country.
The accusation suggests the crisis has not been resolved by an apparent change of tack by Minsk.
Polish Border Guard spokesperson Anna Michalska said that Belarus authorities were already trucking hundreds back. He further said that Belarus has forced them to try to cross in darkness.
More than 2,000 asylum seekers and refugees remained on Poland-Belarus borders for several weeks. This came after Polish authorities refused to let them in.
Their numbers have unprecedentedly risen over the past few weeks amid tension between Belarus and Poland.
