Belgium has decided to close its borders for “non-essential inbound and outbound travel” to slow the spread of the coronavirus, Interior Minister Pieter De Crem said on Friday.
“Tourist trips to Belgium in particular will be banned and border checks will apply henceforth,” De Crem said, adding that every breach will be “strictly sanctioned.”
Federal police and local police districts are in charge of implementing the decision. Border checks have already been rolled out starting 3 p.m. on Friday.
