Beijing, Europe Brief News – Mainland China reported a record two year high of 1,807 new local symptomatic Covid-19 cases on Sunday. The authorities have confirmed that the increase in the case was more than 3 times than the previous day.
The National Health Commission showed on Sunday that the number of transmitted Covid-19 cases with confirmed symptoms spikes from 476 to 1,807 in 24 hours. The daily count included 114 people who were initially classified as asymptomatic and later developed symptoms.
China’s case count is apparently much lower compared to many other countries but an Increasing number of cases could complicate China’s dynamic clearance desire to stop infection as soon as possible.
Use of Self Test kits For Covid-19 cases
The rise in cases forced Health Officials to allow the public to purchase rapid self-test kits for the very first time in the country to detect infection quickly.
Some of the medical experts believe that China’s earlier tactics based mainly on a nucleic acid test requiring medical workers to take samples had become super difficult with the fast-spreading omicron variant.
The Northeastern province of Jilin reported 1,412 new local symptomatic cases on Saturday. The case count jumped from 134 to 1,412 in a single day.
A Jilin Provincial official said, “ The increase showed that some local areas are facing a rapid rise of epidemic and lacking the capacity to expand medical resources which is resulting in limited admission of infections to centralised facilities within a short span of time”.
According to the local official, the authorities in the provincial capital Changchun have called for a proper lockdown and continued to conduct mass testing for the last few days.
The Southern tech hub of Shenzhen reported 60 new local cases with confirmed symptoms on Saturday.
All the districts in Shenzhen have stopped dining in the restaurants and restricted the closed door entertainment venues. They even asked companies to start doing their business using remote working strategies.
Six officials with local government or Communist party authorities in the southern city of Dongguan have been removed for performing poorly to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
The China development forum, a high-level business gathering in Beijing has been called off which was scheduled to take place from March 19-22.
The number of new locally transmitted asymptomatic cases that China does not classify as confirmed cases rose from 1048 to 1315 in a single day.
