The governor of the German state of Saxony-Anhalt announced that a Saudi man was arrested after an “attack” in which he drove a car into a crowd at a Christmas market on Friday in the northern city of Magdeburg.
“We have arrested the perpetrator, a man from Saudi Arabia… a doctor who has been living in Germany since 2006,” Rainer Haseloff told reporters at the scene. “From what we know so far, he was a lone attacker, so we don’t think there is any further danger to the city.”
In other details about the identity of the suspect, the Bild newspaper said that he is a Saudi doctor, 50 years old, and had rented the car shortly before the attack was carried out. He is not known to be affiliated with any terrorist groups.
