EBN- The Lebanese authorities announced, on Wednesday, that the death toll from the Israeli aggression has risen to 1,928 dead and 9,290 wounded since October 8, 2023.
The Lebanese government’s Disaster Management Unit said in its daily report that during the last two days, about 134 Israeli airstrikes and shelling were recorded on different areas of Lebanon, most of which were concentrated in the south and the suburbs of Beirut.
She added, “The number of martyrs and wounded during the past 24 hours reached 55 martyrs and 156 wounded, bringing the total number since October 8 to 1,928 martyrs and 9,290 wounded.”
The unit indicated that “the total number of displaced persons has risen to 1.2 million people, including 160,200 registered in shelters.”
Since October 8, 2023, Lebanese and Palestinian factions in Lebanon, most notably Hezbollah, have been exchanging daily shelling with the Israeli army across the “Blue Line” separating the Strip, while these factions are demanding an end to the war waged by Israel with American support on the Gaza Strip since October 7, which has left more than 138,000 Palestinians dead and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 10,000 missing, amid massive destruction and a deadly famine.
But since the beginning of last week, the Israeli army has been launching an attack that is “the most violent, extensive and intensive” on Lebanon since the beginning of the confrontations with Hezbollah about a year ago.
In contrast, sirens continue to sound in northern Israel near the border with Lebanon, after Hezbollah fired dozens of rockets at military sites and settlements, despite the assassination of its leader Hassan Nasrallah last Friday in Israeli raids on the southern suburbs of Beirut.
