Ankara, Europe Brief News – A magnitude 6.0 earthquake strikes Turkiye’s northwestern Duzce province on Wednesday, injuring 50.
The earthquake, which struck at 4:08 am [local time], was centered about 14 kilometres northwest of Duzce, in the Golyaka district, Türkiye’s disaster management agency, local authorities said.
35 people were injured, one of them critically, and reported 70 aftershocks in the region.
The quake woke people from their sleep and many rushed out of buildings in panic in the province. Power in the region was cut.
Electricity in Duzce province was also snapped as a precautionary measure.

Turkish Red Crescent and AFAD also dispatched their teams to help locals by providing blankets and warm food.
“Our teams are supplying blankets, food and water. Additional blood supplies were sent to hospitals that may be needed in the region,” Turkish Red Crescent said.
The city that last suffered heavy damage from earthquakes in 1999 is on edge in light of the repeated warnings by experts about the anticipated “big one,” an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.0 or higher.
The epicenter of the 1999 earthquake was off the coast of Gölcük, a town east of Istanbul, originating some 80 kilometers away from Avcılar. Yet, the old buildings in the district succumbed to damage.
