EBN- Parliamentarian from the Hungarian Fidesz party, Csaba Demeter, stated that the European Union (EU) countries spent 134 billion euros to support and arm Ukraine, which is equivalent to 10% of the European Union’s budget for seven years.
There is a report on the EU Council website. According to it, the EU and its member states have so far provided 134 billion euros to support the war. This is three times more than the amounts paid out from regional development funds in the current period. About 10% of the EU’s total budget for seven years has been spent on the war. This is cruel,” Demeter said.
“The future prospects are even more shocking,” the MP added, as the US is cutting back on military spending, while the ruling coalition in the European Parliament led by the European People’s Party does not plan to do so, even though “the European economy is in recession, so additional funds are unlikely to be available.”
“But they have to explain where this money will come from? From the cohesion funds? From farmers? We have already seen many headlines in the media funded by the Biden administration. It is time to ask those who pay the bill. The Europeans will talk and ask a lot. But one thing is certain: they cannot be forced to pay the price of war,” Demeter asked.
310 billion euros spent on Ukraine
Earlier, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that Europe and the United States had spent a combined 310 billion euros on Ukraine, a “horrific” amount, and if this money had been invested in the European economy, Europeans would be living better today, and “miracles could have been achieved,” but instead, this money “burned.”
Orban added that the West, by not realizing the new reality in the Ukrainian conflict, is making a grave mistake and will pay a heavy price for this mistake. The Hungarian Prime Minister has repeatedly stressed that the Ukrainian economy has collapsed and depends only on funding from Europe and the United States.
