Singapore is a long way from the racial protests traumatising America and reverberating around the globe. In today's interconnected world, no one can remain ignorant of events shaking apart other countries or be less than appalled at the fracturing fault lines in distant societies.
The world is strangely one, both in the consistency of its natural splendour and the similarity and beauty of all its peoples, whatever their race or colour. The upheavals that happen in one place can just as easily happen in another, given comparable circumstances, which is always when the average, peaceful citizen has reached the limits of tolerance.
